Spooky season is upon us, but those scary noises coming from your AC aren’t ghosts.
In fact, we can safely rule out ghosts, goblins, and even gremlins, but that doesn’t mean those noises aren’t a sign of trouble, so we wanted to arm you with a ”Scary AC Noise to English” dictionary for your reference
Screeching
If it sounds like your air conditioner is screaming when it runs, you might have a damaged or slipped fan belt. Another possibility is a moving part that’s insufficiently lubricated. In that case, what you’re hearing is the sound of excessive friction.
Clanging
If you hear clanging or banging, it could be a component that’s come loose. Running the system with a loose component can damage the component, as well as whatever it’s banging against.
Clicking
If you’re hearing a clicking sound , it’s probably a failing electrical component or a failing capacitor.
Hissing
If your air conditioner is hissing, you probably have a refrigerant leak.
Any one of these sounds is a reason to schedule a service call, and all of them should be addressed before a little problem becomes a big expense so, if you live in Broward or Palm Beach, and your AC is making scary noises, who you gonna call?
